The Missouri Digital
Map Project (MODMAP) began with St. Louis Public Librarys desire to provide enhanced
public access to its cartographic collections and those of other Missouri organizations. As part of the grant all Missouri public and academic libraries, as well as all county and state historical societies, were surveyed. Approximately 100 organizations reported map holdings that were published prior to 1923. With the support of a Library Services and Technology Act grant, funded by the Missouri State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, project staff were able to identify map holdings across the State and develop a list of county atlases. To view listings of the many maps that have been produced over the years consult the listing of Missouri and St. Louis maps. Another part of the grant provided funding for digitizing some of the St. Louis Public
Library maps. They are presented in the "Maps of Missouri" exhibit.
