In 1991 the Library offered a special presentation entitled "African-Americans in Aviation." Captian Al Smith, Deputy Commander for Operations, 375th Military Airlift Wing, Scott Airforce base spoke about the contributions of black Americans to the history and heritage of flight in three programs that were presented at the Cabanne, Divoll, and Walnut Park branches. Captian Smith's background included extensive training in flying military aircraft, and particiation in support missions for Operation Just Cause and Operation Shield/Desert Storm.

| In 1983 Mr. Brian K. Slawin
talked about his flying expariences. Mr. Slawin, a 1989 graduate of Parks College, has been a pilot since 1986 and a Flight Instructor at Parks College since 1989. In his capacity as Assistant Chief Flight Instructor, he worked with 30 other instructors to coordinate and manage the training programs of 250 student pilots. |
