BULLET Adela Riek Scharr Medallion Winner

Linda Finch - 1999 Recipient

Linda Finch received the Scharr Medallion in 1999 as part of the St. Louis Public Library's Aviation History Month activities. The award honored her as the modern aviator who took off from Oakland, California on March 17, 1997 and recreated Amelia Earhart’s heroic, but ill-fated expedition. After an exciting 73-day journey that garnered worldwide press coverage, Ms. Finch returned triumphantly to Oakland on May 28. Finch’s trip, called World Flight 1997, was a tribute to Earhart’s vision and spirit.
