Medallion Winner Gateway Eagles - 1994 Recipient |
||
The Gateway Eagles, a local group of black aviators, received the Scharr Medallion in 1994 as part of the St. Louis Public Library's Aviation History Month activities. They were honored for their work in teaching and providing positive role models for young people. The group teaches young people how to fly, but more importantly, it stresses education and positive role modeling to encourage youth to pursue their dreams. The Gateway Eagles are an outgrowth of one of the earliest black aviation groups, the Tuskegee Airmen, who flew with distinction during World War II. |
