Library Welcomes 7 th Grade Poetry Project Awards Ceremony |
Central
Library hosts the 7th Grade Poetry Project Awards Ceremony in its
Auditorium on Wednesday, April 17 from 5-8:30 p.m. More than
60 young poets, chosen to represent every middle school in the metro area,
take the stage to share poetry they created.
“I was impressed with the depth and vigor of the poetry last year,” said Patty Carleton, the Library’s Director of Youth Services. “This is well-crafted and meaningful poetry inspired by teens’ real lives—everything from violence, to family situations, to nature, and the meaning of life.” Each winning student receives a $25 cash prize; has his or her poem published in an anthology donated to the students, their school libraries, and the St. Louis Public Library; and is featured in a YouTube video clip. For more information contact Aaron, Champion and President of 7GP, at aaron@7thgradepoetry.org.
