Family Theater Series Ė Just As You Like It

St. Louis Shakespeare Festivalís touring production of As You Like It, adapted by Michael B. Perkins, graces Central Libraryís stage on Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m.

In the tradition of romantic comedy, As You Like It is a tale of love at first sight, love thwarted, love misplaced, and loveís ultimate triumph. Rosalind falls in love with Orlando and is banished by her uncle, Duke Frederick. Disguised as a boy named Ganymede, Rosalind, her cousin Celia, and Touchstone, the courtís fool, escape to the Forest of Arden, where they happen upon Orlando fleeing the wrath of his elder brother. Rosalind/Ganymede promises Orlando that ďheĒ can teach him how to win Rosalindís heart, and the fun begins!

Study guides aligned with Common Core State Standards and Missouri State Board of Education Show-Me Standards are available on the St. Louis Shakespeare Festivalís website. The guide includes synopses, character lists, background information, resources for grades K-6 and 6-12 about the plays and adaptations, activities, lesson plans, and more. The show is designed for grades K-6 and is condensed to just under an hour. Itís is a great way to introduce kids to the best known playwright in the world.
