Addington C. Stewart
WHEREAS, Fire Captain Addington C. Stewart was sworn in on August 28, 1978 and for the thirty-five years that followed, dedicated his life to serving the Fire Department and the citizens of the City of St. Louis, before retiring on April 18, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Fire Captain Stewart served as Project Manager for the 1998, $44 million dollar bond issue, overseeing the purchase of new apparatus and equipment and the renovation of all 30 firehouses in the City of St. Louis; and
WHEREAS, Fire Captain Stewart served as Chief Investigator, member and President of the Firefighters Institute for Racial Equality (F.I.R.E.) and as South Central Regional Director of the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters (IABPFF); and
WHEREAS, Fire Captain Stewart, a valued staff member to the first African American Fire Chief of the City of St. Louis, was truly instrumental in the success of the St. Louis Fire Department during that tenure; and
WHEREAS, Fire Captain Stewart as a firefighter, was assigned to Engine Company One (1), Engine Company Thirteen (13) and Rescue Squad One, Engine Company Five (5), Engine Company Six (6), Engine Company Thirty-Three (33) and retired from the department as Field Commander for Airport Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF); and
WHEREAS, Fire Captain Addington C. Steward continues his service in a new role, as instructor for the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute (EDI) at Dillard University.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to congratulate Fire Captain Addington Stewart on the occasion of his 35 years of service for the City of St Louis and we wish him continued peace, good health and happiness. We further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
