Gloria L. Taylor

WHEREAS, we have been apprised that Gloria L. Taylor will be receiving a Award for Charitable Leadership at the St. Louis Community Empowerment Foundation's 10th Annual Salute to Women in Leadership on May 16, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Taylor's commitment to community began in her Atlanta home where generations of family discussed how to better help people in need; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Taylor started Community Women Against Hardship (CWAH) in 1988 in St. Louis to assist single women in need and their families; 33 percent of the city's African Americans then lived below the poverty level; and

WHEREAS, under Ms. Taylor's leadership, CWAH has provided food and clothing to thousands; it has sponsored health-care and music programs, computer training, tutoring and has renovated a former elementary school for a family support center.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize Gloria L. Taylor and we wish her continued success, achievement and accomplishment and we further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honorees at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
