Police Officer Robert Weatherspoon

WHEREAS, we have been apprised that Officer Robert Weatherspoon has been deemed 5th District Officer of the Year 2012; and

WHEREAS, during the year of 2012, Officer Robert Weatherspoon, DSN 3437 performed what Captain Mary Edwards-Fears considers an outstanding display of quality law enforcement. The cumulative exhibition of superb police work exemplifies his dedication, perseverance and genuine desire to serve the Department and community; and

WHEREAS, as a 23 year veteran, Officer Weatherspoon displays high motivation on a daily basis. His dedication and professionalism stand as benchmarks for his peers. Along with superior performance with his daily tasks, Officer Weatherspoon readily volunteers for details and other special event patrols; and

WHEREAS, Officer Weatherspoon performed his duties with exceptional consistency in all areas. All of the solid police work done by Officer Weatherspoon is highly credible and completed without controversy. Officer Weatherspoon led his platoon with 1,294 tickets and 1,957 parking tags issued for 2012. Officer Weatherspoon also handled 2,981 radio calls for service while making several arrests resulting in 313 total charges; and

WHEREAS, as the Fifth District's Traffic Enforcement Officer, Officer Weatherspoon plays an important role by working with community leaders and citizens to establish save travel there. This strengthens the ties between the police and the public, and improves the trust and confidence factors necessary for safer neighborhoods. He is responsible for the placement and maintenance of the District's speed trailer and uses his vehicle's License Plate Recognition (LPR) system to locate wanted vehicles and those vehicles with multiple parking violations. Officer Weatherspoon also trains officers in the use of the LPR system. Officer Weatherspoon is an excellent example of hard work, diligence and dedication to his community; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize 5th District Officer of the Year, Police Officer Robert Weatherspoon for making the City of St. Louis a better place to live and work and we further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honorees at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
