EPSILON LAMBDA CHAPTER OF ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INC.

WHEREAS, the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc., founded in St. Louis, Missouri in 1919 and is the fifth oldest graduate chapter, has been selected as Alumni Chapter of the Year for the District of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the Epsilon Lambda Chapter is to be recognized for continued service for almost 20 years to the St. Louis Metropolitan area, in particular the Third Ward, where the beautiful fraternity house is located at 3615 N. 19th Street; and

WHEREAS, the numerous programs and projects conducted by Epsilon Lambda for the citizens of the neighborhood are having a positive impact on the community; and

WHEREAS, these programs include a back to school book bag giveaway every year for over 600 children, feeding seniors and those in need during the holiday season, Job Fairs at Harris Stowe University, Voter Awareness Programs, an Alpha Mentoring Program for at risk kids, their own Black and Gold Scholarship Event to raise funds for 10 student scholarships each year, support of the Third Ward Festival and the Christmas Bike Giveaway; and

WHEREAS, Epsilon Lambda are also supportive of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and The Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, their commitment to the development of underutilized property into off-street parking for the Third Ward is another example of strong community involvement; and

WHEREAS, the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc., is a towering example of what can be achieved when committed to its aims - Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love For All Mankind.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc. and we wish them continued success and achievement and we further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
