Mr. Majed Abusaid
WHEREAS, we have been apprised that on Thursday, October 25, 2012, Majed Abusaid will be recognized by the residents of the Twenty-Second Ward with the presentation of the Good Neighbor Award for a Business; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majed Abusaid started his first business in 1982 with one small convenient store. Under his leadership, hard work and determination came the creation of Crown Food Mart Companies, which he is the principal owner. Mr. Abusaid has grown the company from one location to twenty-two locations in Missouri and Illinois which include gas stations, grocery stores, shopping plazas and a construction company; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Abusaid is an outstanding community stakeholder, leader and philanthropist. He regularly supports critical programming for low to moderate income children, families and senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, Crown Food Mart companies have established themselves as a major employer in the many communities they serve. Currently it is employing over 200 employees, many of which are resident of the communities where the businesses are located; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Abusaid has been committed to inclusion and diversity in the construction of the various enterprises. By continuously working with minority contractors and organizations that help to further the growth and sustainability of these small firms; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Abusaid has proven himself to be a true community partner in every sense. He is a model businessman who has invested his resources not only for economic gain but to be a source of self-sufficiency and growth for the families and minority companies in the communities they serve.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize the contributions of Mr. Majed Abusaid and we further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
