95th Anniversary of Jamison Memorial Christian Methodist Church
WHEREAS, Jamison Memorial Christian Methodist Church, Reverend Marcus J. Rogers, Pastor, was founded 95 years ago in the City of St. Louis, Missouri by Reverend Nathaniel Moore in 1917; and
WHEREAS, Jamison Memorial CME Church has maintained its establishment in varying locations within the City of St. Louis and since October 22, 1945, is currently situated at 609 North Leffingwell Avenue in the City's Nineteenth Ward; and
WHEREAS, Jamison Memorial CME Church will celebrate its Ninety-Five years of Christian service and fellowship on Sunday, November 18, 2012; and
WHEREAS, during this Great Celebration, Jamison CME Church will acknowledge its historical roots in the December 16, 1870 organization of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church establishing its independence as a direct result of the transition from slavery to freedom; and
WHEREAS, the rich legacy of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church reflects the significance of the black church in the cultural, educational, political, social and spiritual growth of African Americans; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Rev. Marcus J. Rogers calls upon all members of Jamison Memorial, past and present as well as the St. Louis Community to come, reunite, rejoice and give praise for the continuation of this most cherished legacy during JAMISON'S HOMECOMING CELEBRATION.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize Jamison Memorial Christian Methodist Church's Ninety-Five Years of fellowship, worship and service within the City of St. Louis and we further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honorees at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
