Police Officer Eddie Simmons
WHEREAS, we have been apprised that after 41 years of dedicated service to the citizens of St. Louis, Police Officer Eddie Simmons retired in April 2012; and
WHEREAS, Officer Eddie Simmons began his career with the St. Louis Police Department in 1984 and served 28 years retiring in April 2012; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Department he's served in the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Districts. He also served time in the Mobile Reserve and Traffic Safety Divisions; and
WHEREAS, while in the Seventh District, Officer Simmons was passionate in ridding the Cabanne Courts of unfavorable conditions, inundated with drug infestation, heavy gang activity and violence, problem properties and career criminals; and
WHEREAS, Officer Simmons was elected president of the Ethical Society of Police in 1999 and reigned for 12 years until his retirement from the Department; and
WHEREAS, Officer Simmons contemplated resigning his position as president on multiple occasions but found himself committed to forming a harmonious environment throughout the Police Department. Officer Simmons also took particular interest in the recruitment and hiring practices of the Department. He worked selflessly to ensure the Academy training of Police recruits remained equitable and respectful.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to congratulate Police Officer Eddie Simmons for his many years of service with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and we wish him peace and happiness in his retirement and we direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to further prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
