40th Anniversary of the Grand Oak Hill Community Corporation

Whereas, the Grand Oak Hill Community Corporation is celebrating 40 years of service to the Tower Grove South neighborhood and the City of St Louis; and

Whereas, the Grand Oak Hill Community Corporation was created by a group of concerned citizens with the mission of improving the lives of residents of the City of St Louis and specifically the residents of the Tower Grove South neighborhood, formerly known as the Oak Hill neighborhood; and

Whereas, Grand Oak Hill also operates a senior center where it has served over 100,000 meals to St Louis seniors and provided transportation assistance and recreational activities to seniors to enrich and improve their lives; and

Whereas, in the past decade alone Grand Oak Hill has assisted more than 500 low income citizens with much needed home repairs which has invested more than $2 million into the community; and

Whereas, Grand Oak Hill has provided advice, assistance, and consultation to more than 1,000 landlords to help them provide quality, safe housing to residents of St Louis while helping create a better and more livable environment for all; and

Whereas, Grand Oak Hill was instrumental in helping save the South Side National Bank building, one of the city's best examples of art deco architecture, for future generations of St Louisians to enjoy; and

Whereas, Grand Oak Hill has re-developed numerous distressed properties which helps stabilize St Louis's neighborhoods and provides much needed safe and secure housing for low-income residents; and

Whereas, Grand Oak Hill has helped secure historical district status for several areas in South St Louis which benefits the residents of the areas and helps spur rehabilitation of properties within those areas due to tax credits and other benefits; and

Whereas, the City of St. Louis recognizes that neighborhood organizations like Grand Oak Hill Community Corporation provide much needed services to the residents of St Louis and improve the quality of life for all residents.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize the 40th Anniversary of the Grand Oak Hill Community Corporation and we further direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
