| Resolutions adopted during the 2009 session by the St. Louis City

WHEREAS, African American History Month was founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, whose parents were held as slaves, and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1926 and was designed to tell a fuller picture of history that includes the contributions and achievements of African Americans usually left out of the mainstream history books; and
WHEREAS, African American History month was originally founded to be the second week of February and at its inception was named Negro History Week and was expanded to a month with a name change to African American History Month during a convention of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and Culture in the 1970s with the association also changing its name, at that time, to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History; and
WHEREAS, in the spirit of African American History Month the St. Louis Aldermanic African American Caucus recognizes the achievements and contributions of local African Americans to continue the effort of presenting a fuller and enriched picture of history and diversity in the St. Louis community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael L. Gerdine, a native of St. Louis and graduate of Christian Brothers College High School earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology in 1997 and Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 1999 from Logan College of Chiropractic. In June 2000, Dr. Gerdine established West End Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center specializing in sports rehabilitation and acupuncture; and
WHEREAS, His earlier years displayed notoriety in various accomplishments as he earned accolades in both high school and college. As an involved parent, Dr. Gerdine has been an assistant coach at Christian Brothers College High School, training and treating athletes for the past four years. He displays a mind of determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, which is indicated by his successfulness of being the business owner of Elite Detailing, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gerdine is aspired to broaden the knowledge base on the benefits of Chiropractic care with a goal to provide the very best care to all patients with a myriad of health issues. In order for this effort to be effective, there has to be a mutual understanding as to treatment protocol and a team effort of the physician and patient. All efforts will be taken to make sure everyone who visits West End Chiropractic is well educated on the benefits provided with chiropractic treatment; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gerdine is married to Charmaine Gerdine and they have four (4) children.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize the many achievements of Dr. Michael L. Gerdine and we direct the Clerk of this Board to spread a copy of this Resolution across the minutes of these proceedings and to prepare a commemorative copy to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the Sponsor.
