WHEREAS, Tom Schlafly was born on October 28, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri to Dan and Adelaide Schlafly. His siblings are Dan Schlafly of St. Louis and Ellen Shafer of Rye, New York. He attended Priory High School, Georgetown University and Oxford University; and
WHEREAS, Tom opened the Schlafly Tap Room at 2100 Locust St. on December 26, 1991 and has been brewing Schlafly Beer for over 15 years; and
WHEREAS, Tom has endured years of struggles to make Schlafly an icon in St. Louis and in 1997 his dog Sparky paraded a Schlafly keg into Busch Stadium Clydesdale-style delivering the first shipment of Schlafly Beer to the Anheuser-Busch owned stadium; and
WHEREAS, Schlafly Beer offers over 40 different styles of beer, of which typically six or more are served at any one time; and
WHEREAS, Tom has demonstrated a long standing commitment to the City of St. Louis by bringing the best beers ever brewed, throughout history, anywhere in the world. All of St. Louis is encouraged to attend his birthday party on November 18, 2008.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen for the City of St. Louis that we pause in our deliberations to recognize Tom Schlafly on his 60th Birthday and wish him and Schlafly Beer continued success in the future and direct the Clerk of this Board to prepare a commemorative copy of this resolution to the end that it may be presented to our honoree at a time and place deemed appropriate by the sponsor.
