17.56.140 Impoundment--Required.

Any vehicle or parts or part removed pursuant to Section 17.56.020 shall be removed to an impoundment area as defined in Section 17.56.010.

17.56.150 Impoundment--Duration.

Any vehicle or parts removed pursuant to Section 17.56.020(B)(1) through (7) inclusive shall be impounded for a period of thirty (30) days. Any vehicle or parts of vehicles removed pursuant to Section 17.56.020(B)(8) through (10) shall be impounded for a period of ten (10) days.

17.56.160 Investigation of theft.

Upon the removal of any vehicle authorized by the Metropolitan Police Department pursuant to Section 17.56.030, that department shall inquire of the national crime information center and any statewide Missouri law enforcement computer system to determine if the vehicle has been reported as stolen. The report of the removal shall be prepared in conformity with Section 304.155 RSMo., 1987. Upon the removal of any vehicle or part authorized by the Director of Streets pursuant to Section 17.56.040, the Director of Streets shall cause an inquiry to be made by the appropriate law enforcement agency to determine if the vehicle has been reported stolen. The Director of Streets shall assist the Metropolitan Police Department in the disposition of any vehicles determined to be stolen.

17.56.170 Notice to owner upon impoundment.

The Director of Streets shall make reasonable efforts to ascertain the ownership of all vehicles impounded pursuant to Section 17.56.140. Upon determination of ownership, the Director of Streets shall notify the owner of the location of the vehicle, procedure for redemption as set forth in Section 17.56.190, and final disposition pursuant to Section 17.56.200. Notice shall be enclosed in a sealed envelope, postage prepaid, directed to the owner either at his place of business or residence in the City or elsewhere.

17.56.180 Fee for storage.

The Director of Streets is authorized to establish a schedule of fees for the cost of storage of any vehicle or parts or part removed and stored in an impoundment area pursuant to Section 17.56.020. Such fee is to be paid by the owner, and is due and payable upon the redemption of the vehicle or part.

17.56.190 Redemption--Procedure.

The owner or person in charge of the vehicle or parts may redeem an impounded vehicle or parts by complying with the following:

A. Establishing his own identity;

B. Providing proof of ownership;

C. Providing evidence of clearance of any traffic or parking fines or exhibiting summons indicating future court dates for hearings on such offense;

D. Paying the costs for removal and storage; and

E. Signing a release.
