Election Day Parking

17.26.010 Parking permitted--Limitations.

There is hereby established one hundred (100) feet of motor vehicle parking space along the curb line adjacent to all precinct polling places established by the Board of Election Commissioners between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on every general, primary or special election day for the use of registered and qualified voters voting at such precinct, while exercising their voting privilege.

17.26.020 Duties of Traffic and Transportation Administrator.

The Traffic and Transportation Administrator of the City is hereby authorized and directed to post appropriate signs prohibiting the parking of motor vehicles within such areas designated in Section 17.26.010 of this chapter on every general, primary or special election day. Should such motor vehicle parking area so designated in Section 17.26.010 of this chapter be located in parking meter areas, or in an area limiting, restricting or prohibiting parking, then in such event, the provision of this division shall have precedence over any such ordinance, regulation of prohibition between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on every general, primary or special election day, except where parking in such area is prohibited because of the existence of a fire hydrant, fire lane or mail box in such area and in such cases all such prior existing prohibitions shall remain in full force and effect, the provisions of this division notwithstanding.

17.26.030 Unlawful to park vehicle.

No person, firm or corporation shall park a vehicle in the motor vehicle parking space area set forth in Section 17.26.010 of this chapter unless such person is exercising their voting privilege at such time.

17.26.040 Penalty.

Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate the provisions of this chapter shall upon the conviction thereof be fined ten dollars ($10.00) for each such offense.
