17.06.010 Authority of police, fire department and school crossing guards.

A. It shall be the duty of the police department to enforce this title.

B. Officers of the police department are hereby authorized to direct all traffic whenever needed, by voice or signal.

C. Members of the fire department, when at the scene of or in the immediate vicinity of a fire or any other emergency where fire department equipment is present and when maneuvering fire department equipment at a firehouse may direct or may assist police officers in directing traffic by voice or signal.

D. School crossing guards are hereby authorized to regulate traffic to the extent of stopping traffic and causing it to remain stopped, by voice or signal, whenever such regulation of traffic is necessary to ensure the safe passage of children.

17.06.020 Obedience to police officers, firemen and school crossing guards.

A. No person shall fail or refuse to comply with the reasonable orders or signal of a police officer, fireman, or school crossing guard given or made while enforcing this title.

B. It shall be unlawful on public streets for any person designated by this division, to interfere with, or direct or attempt to direct traffic movements or parking.

C. Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer. Any driver or operator of a motor vehicle who, having been given a visual or audible signal by a peace officer directing such driver or operator to bring his vehicle to a stop, willfully fails or refuses to obey such direction, increases his speed, extinguishes his lights, or otherwise flees or attempts to elude the officer is guilty of a Class B misdemeanor. The signal given by the peace officer may be by hand, voice, siren, or red light. Provided, the officer giving such signal shall be in police uniform, and, if driving a vehicle, such vehicle shall be marked showing it to be an official police vehicle.
