Police Animals

15.12.010 Injuring or interfering with animal prohibited.

It shall be unlawful for any person to taunt, torment, tease, beat, strike, interfere with, endanger, injure or kill or administer or subject any desensitizing drugs, chemicals or substance to any dog or horse used by a Law Enforcement Officer in the performance of his duties or when the dog or horse is placed in kennel, stable or any enclosure while off duty.

15.12.020 Exceptions.

This chapter does not apply to a Police Officer or veterinarian that may perform euthanasia in emergency situations when delay would cause the dog or horse undue suffering and pain.

15.12.030 Penalty for violations.

Any person convicted of violating the provisions of this chapter shall be fined a minimum of four hundred dollars ($400) and may also be imprisoned from one (1) day to ninety (90) days or by both such fine and imprisonment.
