15.120.010 Failure to report--Parental control.

Every parent or legal guardian of a minor under the age of seventeen years shall, when the minor has been taken into custody by the Police Department, report within forty-eight hours after notification of this fact to the Juvenile Officer of the Police District in which the Juvenile Officer or his superior officer shall cause a written notice to be given to the parent or legal guardian by registered mail or by serving the notice upon the person. The notice so given shall apprise the parent or legal guardian of the fact their minor under seventeen years of age had been taken into custody by the Police Department and of their responsibility under provisions of this chapter to report to the Police District. The notice shall specify what Police District the parent or legal guardian is to appear and shall name the Juvenile Officer to whom to report. Any parent or legal guardian failing to report within forty-eight hours after receiving the notice shall have violated this code. It shall further be the duty for each parent or legal guardian of a minor under the age of seventeen years to exercise reasonable parental control of the minor. It shall be deemed a violation of this code for any parent or legal guardian of a minor under the age of seventeen years to fail to exercise reasonable parental control of the minor when the failure contributes to, causes or tends to cause the minor to come within the provisions of subdivisions (1) or (2) of Section 211.031 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri.

15.120.020 Penalty for violation.

Any parent or legal guardian of a minor child under the age of seventeen years who shall violate the provisions of this chapter shall be punished upon conviction by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars nor more than five hundred dollars.

15.120.030 School attendance by child.

A. No parent, guardian or other person in this City having charge, control or custody of a child between the ages of seven and sixteen years of age shall, without excuse or exemption, knowingly permit said child to absent himself from attendance at a public, private, parochial, parish or home school on such dates, and during such hours, as the school may be regularly in session.

B. Such parent, guardian, or other person shall be deemed to have knowledge of a child's unexempted, unexcused absence from school after having received notification of same from a police officer or school representative.

15.120.040 Penalty for violation--Section 15.120.030.

Any person convicted of a violation of this section shall be fined in an amount of not less than twenty-five dollars ($25.00). Each day that any violation hereunder continues shall constitute a separate offense subject to the penalty provided in this section.
