8.52.010 Dry cleaning definitions.

"Dry cleaning plant establishment" means any place, building or structure, room, establishment or portion thereof, which is used for the purpose of dry cleaning of clothing, materials or fabrics, and includes any place where any self service machine is rented for compensation for the dry cleaning of clothing, materials or fabrics on a time or per load basis within the city.

"Qualified attendant" means a person having either at least one year's experience with the operational procedure of a dry cleaning system, or who shall have completed the prescribed course in dry cleaning conducted at the Hadley Technical High School or at the National Institute of Dry Cleaning.

8.52.020 Dry cleaning license--Required.

No person shall engage in, carry on or conduct the business of cleaning or blocking hats or of cleaning or pressing clothes (with a pressing machine) within the city without first obtaining a license from the license collector.

8.52.030 Dry cleaning license--Application.

The application for license to engage in the business of cleaning and blocking of hats or the cleaning or pressing of clothing or other materials or fabrics shall be made to the License Collector in writing and shall state, among other things, the following:

A. The name and address of the applicant, the address or addresses of the place or places of business of applicant;

B. The number of pressing or cleaning machines placed or to be placed in the establishment;

C. The gross sales or receipts received by the applicant from cleaning or pressing of clothing or other materials or fabrics or the cleaning or blocking of hats for the preceding calendar year;

D. Other information prescribed by the License Collector.

Should the applicant not have been engaged in such business in the preceding calendar year, the applicant shall so state.

8.52.050 Dry cleaning license--Display.

The certificate of the license required by this chapter shall be conspicuously displayed in the place of business of the licensee.

8.52.060 Qualified attendant required.

Each dry cleaning plant establishment shall have a qualified attendant on the premises at all times that the establishment may be open for business to the public.

Any person, firm, owner, operator or agent who shall violate or fail to comply with the requirement of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall upon conviction be fined not less than one dollar nor more than five hundred dollars.

8.52.070 Laundry defined.

"Laundry," when used in this chapter, means any place, building, structure, room, establishment or portion thereof, which is used for the purpose of washing, drying, starching or ironing shirts, dresses, underwear, collars, cuffs or other wearing apparel, table, bed or other household linens, towels, curtains, draperies or other washable fabrics, when such work is being done for the general public.

It shall also include any laundry sales station as defined in Section 8.52.100 and any place where any self-service machine is rented for compensation for the laundering, drying or dry cleaning of clothing, materials or fabrics on a time or per load basis within the City.

Sections 8.52.070--8.52.110 shall not apply to any female engaged in doing custom laundry work at her home for a regular family trade, nor to any room or portion thereof, located in a tenement house or other dwelling, in which domestic laundry work is done by or for the occupants of the building exclusively.

8.52.080 Laundry license--Required.

No person shall conduct, operate, maintain or carry on the business of a laundry within the City limits without first obtaining a license.

8.52.090 Laundry license--Application.

The application for a license to conduct a laundry shall be made in writing and shall state, among other things: the name and address of the applicant, the number of laundry sales stations operated by the applicant, the number of self service machines operated by him for use on a rental basis, the name and address of his establishment where laundry work is performed, the gross receipts or sales received by the applicant for the preceding calendar year and any other information prescribed by the License Collector. Should the applicant not have been engaged in such business in the preceding year, the applicant shall so state.

8.52.110 Laundry license--Display.

Each license issued under the provisions of Sections 8.52.070--8.52.110 shall be displayed in a conspicuous place in the shop of the licensee.
